Amanda Geppert has worked at the intersection of design and public health for more than a decade. She is the Director of the Design Thinking Lab at the Center for Interdisciplinary Inquiry and Innovation in Sexual and Reproductive Health (Ci3) at the University of Chicago, where she and her team develop innovative community and clinic-based interventions to advance the health and assets of young people. As a PhD student at the IIT Institute of Design, her research focuses on the development and evaluation of participatory design processes that build community while creating knowledge as a practical resource for action. Prior to Ci3, Amanda guided model replication for Cure Violence in 16 U.S. cities including Baltimore, New Orleans and New York City. She holds a Master of Design Methods (MDM) from the IIT Institute of Design, a Master of Public Health (MPH) from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and a Bachelor of Arts (A.B.) in English Language and Literature from the University of Chicago.
Entering the UI / UX / CX space over 15 years ago, Melissa began as design and product for third party collections and then moved into the digital space, focusing on collections and then credit card. Recently hired to lead the Digital Product team at Great Wolf Resorts, she has been tasked with redefining the digital channels. In parallel, Melissa is a Human Computer Interaction Masters’s Candidate at Iowa State University, founded the Brett Robert Jostes Scholarship for Girls Going Into STEM, is a three year running WebAward Judge and has been quoted in Forbes magazine as a UX industry leader.
Gentry Sleets works as a UXA for Grainger by day and freelances under the alias Left Brain Graphics by night. He enjoys helping individuals and organizations solve complex opportunities through visual, story-telling solutions. In his first life as an award-winning graphic journalist he learned how to effectively answer who, what, when, where and why? Over the years, he has worked with such brands including BusinessWeek and Essence Magazines, The New York Times, Chicago Tribune, Mars, Humana, Sears and Chicago Public School District. He received a BA in Visual Communication from Grambling State University and a MS in HCI from Iowa State University. He hopes some day to witness the development of a fully, functional light saber.
Cindy Wang is a UX researcher, designer, copywriter, and staunch Oxford comma advocate. A graduate of The University of Chicago and Designation, she's now a part of the design research team at Walgreens.
Mike Joosse is President at Designation, the leading UX/UI immersive design program, where he champions participants to become purposeful, skilled, impassioned design leaders of tomorrow. He's lectured across the country on community and careers in design, at conferences and to a host of organizations.
Daniel is a Technology Strategist at Microsoft, where he works with organizations in Chicago to help them accelerate their Digital Transformation journey. He has 20 years of technology experience, including 10 years at BP and 6 years at Accenture. At BP, Daniel built and ran global technology teams across Malaysia, India, the U.K. and the U.S. and spent 2 years in Malaysia setting up an IT center in Kuala Lumpur. Daniel has extensive experience partnering with business and technology leaders to define and implement strategic initiatives.
Daniel is the co-chair of the Technology Committee of the Chicagoland Chamber of Commerce, is a member of the Executives Club of Chicago’s Technology and Financial Services Forums, and is also a member of 1871, Chicago’s tech entrepreneurship hub. He is the President of the Board of Directors for the Bleeding Disorders Alliance of Illinois and serves on the community services committee of New Life Community Church.
Before joining Microsoft, Daniel took a career break to mobilize technology workforce development efforts for youth in underserved communities in the South side of Chicago, exposing high school students to virtual reality, augmented reality and artificial intelligence. Daniel is bringing his passion for Diversity in Tech to Microsoft, where he is currently working with Microsoft’s Diversity & Inclusion leaders to continue to advocate for Diversity in Tech in Chicago.
Nicole is a UX Professional at CareerBuilder, currently working as a User Experience Researcher and also gaining knowledge in the visual design space. Nicole is in her Masters of Human Computer Interaction at Iowa State University and graduates this upcoming May. She also mentors through Designation, and recently got involved as an organizer through Girl Develop It. Nicole is also the co-producer of World Information Architecture Day this year.
